Someone let the dog in the house with wet paws. The kids are running rampant. Your mother is lamenting over the state of the table setting and the color napkins you chose to use. Your father and Uncle Al are having a snoring competition in the living room. Your husband is on the patio fighting the deep fryer for the Pinterest-worthy Cajun dry-rubbed bird your prided yourself on creating this holiday. The oven is blazing, every eye on the stove is burning, the electric meter is pegged out. The house is filled with relatives you haven't seen for the better part of the year. The chaos is simmering like your homemade cranberry sauce. Yep, you guessed it - it's the holidays.
This time of year is supposed to be joyous, full of family, and wonderful memories. However, for most it is a stressful season of burnout, overwork, and maybe even financial burden. EFT can really help with your emotional regulation during this hectic time of year. Let's get right into a tapping script for holiday stress:
Find a quiet place where you can relax and tune into your thoughts. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and use this tapping script as a guide. You can omit or change any words or phrases that do not resonate with you in order to craft a script that is unique to you and your situation:
Start with the Karate Chop Point:
"Even though the holidays are causing me a lot of stress, I choose to love and accept myself..."
"Even though I am under a lot of pressure to create the perfect holiday, I choose to love and accept myself..."
"Even though the holidays should be a fun time of year and I feel guilty for being so burdened bt it all, I choose to love and accept myself..."
Now tap through the other points, using a reminder phrase:
Eyebrow: "I'm so stressed out."
Side of the Eye: "Everything is so chaotic."
Under the Eye: "All the shopping and cooking and errands."
Under the Nose: "I have so much and so many depending on me."
Chin: "What if I can't get it all done?"
Collarbone: "What if I fail?"
Under the Arm: "All this holiday stress."
Top of the Head: "All these expectations."
Eyebrow: "I feel so stressed."
Side of the Eye: "I'm tired thinking about everything I have to do."
Under the Eye: "The holidays are more work than fun."
Under the Nose: "It's really burning me out."
Chin: "It's all really taking its toll on me."
Collarbone: "I'm not sure I can keep up with it all."
Under the Arm: "This holiday stress."
Top of the Head: "All these holiday expectations."
Now that you have done two full rounds of tapping, check in with yourself and see how you are feeling. If you feel much calmer and like the nervous, negative energy has shifted - great! You're done. If you still feel some lingering anxieties, try to speak into existence how you would like to feel, even if you don't at the moment:
Eyebrow: "I want to enjoy this time of year."
Side of the Eye: "I want to enjoy the holidays."
Under the Eye: "I want to relax a little more and stress a lot less."
Under the Nose: "If I don't get everything done, what is the worst that is going to happen?"
Chin: "Who is going to judge me if every single task isn't completed?"
Collarbone: "I choose to feel at ease."
Under the Arm: "I choose to be at peace."
Top of the Head: "I want to make time for myself and make myself a priority."
Eyebrow: "I choose to relax and enjoy the holidays."
Side of the Eye: "I choose to have a joyful experience."
Under the Eye: "I choose to believe everything will get done."
Under the Nose: "I choose to let go of my need for perfection."
Chin: "I choose to let go of my worries I will be judged if I'm not perfect."
Collarbone: "I choose to look at the bright side."
Under the Arm: "I choose to take care of myself and be at peace."
Top of the Head: "I choose to enjoy the holidays and be thankful for food and family."
Keep tapping this sequence until the stress is relieved. If at any time during the hectic preparations and family time, you feel the anxiety and pressure returning, go through this script again addressing the reasons why you feel you are becoming stressed again. Be kind to yourself! If the tapping sequence isn't helping, book an appointment with me at Mountain Bird Mindfulness & EFT and let's get to the bottom of what is bothering you.
Sending love and light your way. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
